Recent sad demises |

In the light of recent sad losses I was trawling around for links and found the following, which ties together some of the dear departed.

Willy Maeckelberghe |
|
| One of my earlist memories of college life is being shipped down to Coombe Lane , whilst in Figures and Ruds, to watch and cheer on the First Fifteen. I remember Willy and "Butch" so well. Great players. I think Willy went on to Guys Hospital and captained the united hospitals 15 back in the days when they were a force to be reckoned with! Never mind the studies, get on with the rugby!!! It comes to us all, but their passing is sad. Good lives both. |

Willy Maeckelberghe |
|
| Earlier this week I wrote a letter to Willy Maeckelberghe (1940-46) whom all OWs of that period will never forget, to tell him of the death of Tony Kelleher his immediate predecessor as captain of the College 1st XV. Sadly his widow has just rung me to tell me that Willy himself had died suddenly only 2 months ago. In the view of Fr, Wetz and who better to judge, Willy was the finest rugby player ever turned out by the College. It is arguable that Tony himself was the finest sprinter .Please remember them both and their widows and families in your prayers. |

Tony Montfort RIP |
|
We received the following email from Fr. Tim Curtis SJ
Dear Friends of Tony,
Some sad news. Tony Montfort died at about 6.15 this evening. For the last 18 hours he had been sleeping very peacefully. When I saw him this morning, there was no sign of any anxiety in him at all. It appears he suffered no pain. His family were with him.
Obviously our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
I will let you have further information about his funeral as soon as I have it.
With great sadness of heart,
Fr Tim Curtis SJ

Norwegian TV |
|
Richard Imber has been contacted, and we have agreed to, a Norwegian Film Crew, filming at the Old Wimbledonians, who are making a programme about specialist English Sports (Cricket, Polo, Rowing) that they don’t see over there in Scandanavia.
They will have one of their presenters ‘giving it a go’ before the match, then they maybe filming some of the game for Norway TV.
By sheer coincidence the Sunday 1 XI are playing a team called Scandanavian Wanderers on the day. Any support would be welcome. More info shortly |

Bar Steward |
|
Nathalie, our fantastic clubhouse manager, will be leaving us on the 20th May.
The OWA committee and also I'm sure all our members who have been down to the clubhouse this year, would like to thank Nathalie for all her hard work. We wish her all the very best for the future.
This sad news is tempered by the very exciting news that we have hired Gill Markwell to run the clubhouse.
Gill recently was manager and head chef of "The Castle" a pub in Battersea. We feel that this is an exciting and very positive step forward for the OWA. Please make Gill welcome. |

Bar Tabs |
|
| We are planning to introduce credit/debit card facilities into the bar in the very near future. We feel that this facility is long overdue. In advance of the new credit card machine being installed we are beginning to phase out the bar tab system. |
